Michael Williams

As part of Cleveland’s mechanical and electrical team, Michael secures effective patent protection for his clients’ innovations in the electrical, mechanical and software fields.

Michael’s clients include a number of UK companies operating in fields such as electrical generators, testing equipment and packaging machines. Michael gets to know them, their products and the technology behind them, allowing him to capture their inventions in appropriate and cost-effective patent applications.

Michael’s clients benefit from the fact that he was previously an Examiner at the European Patent Office and the insight this gives him into the mindset and working practices of the EPO. Michael particularly enjoys representing clients in oppositions, appeals and related oral proceedings.

Michael’s practice also includes providing opinions on the infringement and validity of third party patents and providing technical support to solicitors involved in patent litigation.

Michael is an active member of CIPA’s International Liaison Committee, and has spoken on aspects of European patent law for AIPLA in the United States and JPAA in Japan.

Michael Williams – energising ideas for Cleveland clients since 2004.
