Syngenta is the world's leading crop protection organisation, and is heavily innovation dependent. The company has a substantial portfolio of patents and applications in a large number of jurisdictions. Its in-house IP department is increasingly required to deal with strategic issues, stretching its capacity for the filing and prosecution of patent cases. These cases are challenging from several points of view; they are technically complex, require industry-specific expertise and are commercially very important.

Cleveland provides additional resource to Syngenta on demand. Because Cleveland’s attorneys have a deep understanding of both the technology and business of the crop protection industry, our client is able to outsource work with very little requirement for explanation. This enables them to free up their own attorneys’ time for shaping their business strategy.  Effectively, Cleveland acts as an extension of the in-house department, but one that is only there when required.
